Declarations of Rights by Nations

Union Acts in British History

  • 1536: A series of laws passed by the English Parliament between 1536 and 1543 unite England with Wales. The laws clearly abolished the Welsh language.
  • 1707: Scotland is annexed to England through the Act of Union.
  • 1800: Great Britain suppresses the Irish parliament with the Union Act on the 7th of June, 1800.
  • 1841: The Act of Union unites the colonies of Lower Canada (Québec) and Upper Canada (Ontario). The Canadiens become a national minority in the new United Canada by the 1850s.
