This act of the federal Parliament of Canada, generally called the ''Clarity Act'', claims to "give effect to the requirement for clarity" found in the opinion Supreme Court of Canada in ''[[Reference re Secession of Quebec]]''. This however is not considered to be true at all by opponents to the act.
