On motion of Mr. ''Murphy'', seconded by the Honorable Mr. ''Lynch'', 

''Resolved, nemine contra dicente'', that this House desires to express feelings of the most profound regret that a measure of extreme coercion has been introduced into the Imperial Parliament, a measure utterly at variance with the spirit of the age and entirely opposed to the rights and privileges of common humanity. This House desires to place on record its strenuous protest against the threatened encroachments on the liberty of Her Majesty's subjects in ''Ireland'' and hopes that the arbitrary and unjust measure may be withdrawn.

That this is the opinion of this House that it would be a gracious act on the part of Her Majesty's Government, in this year of the Queen's Jubilee to grant to ''Ireland'' a liberal measure of self-government similar to that which obtains in all Her Majesty's self-governing possessions throughout the world and it is earnestly prayed by this House that the principle of Home Rule may be conceded to ''Ireland'' at the present session of the Imperial Parliament.

''Ordered'', That copies of the said Resolution be transmitted to Lord ''Salisbury'', the Right Honorable W. E. Gladstone and Chas. S. Parnell.

''Resolved, nemine contra dicente'', that a Message be sent to the Honourable the Legislative Council, informing their honors that this House hath passed the foregoing Resolution, and requesting their honors to consider the advisibility of adopting the same.

Mr. Speaker acquainted the House, That a Message had been brought from the Legislative Council by their Clerk, as followeth :

The Legislative Council have adopted the Resolutions of this House on the subject of the measure submitted to the Imperial Parliament concerning ''Ireland'', with the following amendment : In the first paragraph by striking out all the words after "humanity" up to the word "withdrawn" inclusively.

On motion of the Honorable Mr. ''Mercier'', seconded by the Honorable Mr. ''Lynch'',

''Resolved'', That this House doth concur in the amendment made by the Legislative Council to the first paragraph of the Resolutions adopted by this House on the 18th April last, on the subject of the measure submitted to the Imperial Parliament concerning Ireland.
