An Act to give effect to the requirement for clarity as set out in the opinion of the Supreme Court of Canada in the Quebec Secession Reference
Jun 29, 2000

This act of the federal Parliament of Canada, generally called the Clarity Act, claims to "give effect to the requirement for clarity" found in the opinion Supreme Court of Canada in Reference re Secession of Quebec. This however is not considered to be true at all by opponents to the act. See Preliminary statement of Quebec Premier Lucien Bouchard, on the day following the rendering of the Opinion of the Supreme Court of Canada on the federal government's Reference on Secession and Open letter in support of the democratic right to self-determination for Quebec.
